Our comfortable home studio is a great place to record. With a growing list of vintage and professional studio microphones and clean pre-amps we can capture your performance without the impersonal wall of glass. With a range of studio guitars, basses, amps and some other bits and bobs we can find the sound you’re looking for!

At Dollarbird Studios we pride ourselves on our high-level production. Whether it be for a stripped back acoustic track or a full-blown band recording or even songs that need some programmed synth and sample sounds we’ve got you covered. As a producer, Grant brings his multi-instrumental, multi-genre experience to the table to help shape the recording and create little bursts of inspiration in the track. Grant’s mantra is ‘for the song’ and before every decision is made the question ‘does the song need this?’ is asked.

If you’re looking for a beautiful string quartet or a super funky horn section to appear on your recording, you’ll need to be able to hand them parts. At Dollarbird Studios we can offer arrangement services to provide written parts for strings, horns and even full orchestras. Our arrangements will be perfectly matched to the song and are tailored to sit seamlessly with the rhythm section. Our inspiration comes from the greats, take a listen to the strings on Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Goin’ On’ the horns on Earth Wind and Fire’s ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’ or the orchestral arrangement from ‘Over The Rainbow’ of Ray Charles’ album ‘Genius Loves Company’ and you’ll know what we mean.

Engineer Grant Carruthers has a wealth of experience across genres as a mix engineer. With a musical ear and a flair for creative mix techniques you can rely on Grant for a high-quality mix that enhances the performance. Using state-of-the-art software and plug-ins we are able to instantly recall the mix for any revisions. We also have some cool vintage gear including a 50’s tape machine and an 80’s spring reverb.

For mastering we take meticulous care to ensure your track will sound good on any speakers. We also master for iTunes/Spotify as standard with separate masters for CD free of charge.

Our experience working specifically on video for live sessions makes us your best friend when looking for visual content with a studio sound. We operate a three-camera setup to capture all the best angles and film musically so as not to miss the high note or the finger twisting guitar lick. Our edits are subtle, made with an eye for detail, and graded to suit your style.

Grant Carruthers is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist capable of filling the role of ‘session player’ on a wide range of instruments. Grant list of instruments includes guitar, cello, saxophone, bass (electric and upright), vocals, percussion, cajon, keys, Irish whistle, mandolin and more! We also have a large database of players across different genres and can help organise the perfect session player for your recording.
